Bolingbrook, IL was the scene of Susan and Eric Carver’s wedding at the Bolingbrook Country Club. This site is about a 45-minute drive from downtown Chicago in a southwesterly direction. After the wedding we headed downtown for two days and stayed at the Holiday Inn close to O’Hare airport.
Taking the metro (rail system) from the airport was quite an experience. We missed the station for downtown and rode the whole line (blue line) – and halfway back. It took 2 hours to eventually get to downtown and walked straight into Macy’s attached to the station! Another 30 minutes to find our way out and finally landed on Michigan Avenue – the main drag in town. We walked over the bridge towards Lake Michigan and entered Millennium Park through the Gracy Daley Park.
Elsa and I were both blown away by the city skyline of high rise building against a blue sky as backdrop. The weather was a perfect 79 degrees and a mild wind of about 10 knots came off the lake. Wherever one looked, another building of glass and mirrors fought for attention.
But it was the festive mood and old railway way tracks overhead that captured the city – old infrastructure among high tech architecture. We walked about three miles around the lake front, did some shopping at Old Navy and headed back on the metro.
A place to visit again if opportunity presents itself.
