The town of Taos is situated at the foot-end of the Sangre de Christo mountains. To the left from town, the road leads to the ski area of Taos Ski Valley at 9,200 ft above sea level (2,800 m). To the right, it leads to another ski area called US Hill. On the way to Taos Ski Valley, one passes the 200-year old community of Arroyo Seco. Famous artists call this their home which is evident all around. There is a nice trail (Trail 61),which we attempted, but it was too muddy to complete it.
