We ventured further around the lake (dam) and discovered ‘Little Paris’. Little Paris is hidden away on a busy road in Hartbeespoort, a short drive from Pretoria. The square is complete with a gift shop, deli, boutique, and café. To set the scene of romance, there is a lover’s bridge with South Africa’s own Eiffel Tower finishing the picture. Paris is most famed for its food. And so is Little Paris, home to French Toast ‘Koffie Kafee’ (Coffee Café). This Parisian café is shrouded in lush greenery. The Parisian feel is accentuated by the surrounding bicycles, small French cars, and the menu.
If you’re visiting Little Paris with your partner, grab a lock before leaving. Engrave your lock with your and your partner’s names and lock it on the lover’s bridge or Eiffel Tower. Then keep the keys as a memento or drop them in the fountain for good luck. We never actually attached a lock onto the lover’s bridge, but the symbolism of unity and strength of a marriage hit home!
