Kruger Park is in a summer rainfall area. Such precipitation is usually convectional and can result in heavy thunderstorms and downpours. The summer months (October to April) are hot and often balmy. Winters are warm and mild.
We visited only a small portion of the park, entering the Phabeni Gate to Skukuza (one of the main camps in the park), then looped along the Crocodile River back to the Phabeni Gate. It was a whole day’s drive with lunch at the ‘Kruger Station Restaurant’ under some huge fans to beat the heat!
As the photos suggest, we saw ample wildlife including impalas, kudu, warthog, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, hippo and various herds of elephants. Yes, literally right next to us on the road. Note how well the animals camouflage themselves, irrespective of size. This is Africa as one imagines it!
