Chameleon Village, based on the western side of Hartbeespoort, is an upmarket multi-facility venue that offers everything from wining and dining, outdoor activities, craft markets, wildlife facilities, live entertainment, outdoor play areas, and a shopping experience unlike any other! It is a famous and favorite stop for locals and tourists alike. We enjoyed the African Curio Market in particular. Unique artefacts, drums, Nguni skins, ethnic masks, hand-carved wood and stone sculptures, ethnic jewelry, hand beaded products, woven baskets, Kuba cloth products, and so much more can be found there. The Crafter Market offers garden décor, crockery and cutlery, stone and wooden crosses, wall hangings and leather items.
Across the road is a conglomerate of small enterprises known as the Trading House and anchored by the Upper Deck Restaurant. A South African delicacy called a ‘pannekoek’ or ‘pan cake’ (like a French crepe and not a Belgian waffle), are served here. We never miss the opportunity to sample their ‘pannekoeke’ whenever in the area.
