Then it was back in Johannesburg to drop off the car and head to the airport (Lanseria) to fly to Cape Town. The second part of our vacation was about to start. Picking up a rental car at the airport, we headed to the town of ‘Somerset Strand’ next to Gordon’s Bay. It is about 43 kilometers (27 miles), to the east of Cape Town. The city of Cape Town faces Table Bay, named after Table Mountain, it’s famous backdrop. On the back of the mountain lies Cape Point and the entrance to False Bay, next to Table Bay.
A few small harbors line the coast going east until you get to Walker Bay and the famous town of Hermanus, our ultimate destination. This area is known for whale watching and great white shark cage diving. We picked up Kyla at the airport (after not seeing her for 10 months) and rented a beautiful ocean-facing apartment on the beach at the Strand. We needed some family time and were treated like royalty by Paul, our host for the few days at the apartment.
