Leaving Las Vegas, we quickly entered Death Valley. Perhaps so-called due to the lack of any trees. 25 miles past the town of Beatty (two-horse town) and before Hawthorne (Screech Air Force Base – drone capital), we found the Shady Lady B&B. A real bordello from 1881 up to 2011. Stopped for breakfast only and surprisingly met the South African owner who shared so much history with us. It is literally between nowhere and nothing. What a surprise!
The mountain range behind the ranch is part of the infamous Area 51. The security radio towers, and patrol units were clearly visible for a 200-mile stretch.
