Not Las Vegas, nor Reno, is the capital of the state of Nevada. That honor falls to Carson City, right on the California border in the eastern facade of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Situated in Eagle Valley about thirty miles south of Reno, the town is named after the frontier mountain man, Kit Carson. Gold was discovered in 1859 near neighboring Comstock Lode and the population grew exponentially.
King’s Canyon Waterfall Trail & North King’s Loop starts higher up in the King’s valley and is 1.9 miles long. This short trail boasts a 452-foot elevation hike to a thirty-foot waterfall of rundown melted snow. This water serves as one of the main water sources for the capital. While not spectacular as far as waterfalls go, the hike does offer scenic views of Eagle Valley and the Sierra’s.
