Highway 89 runs along the shore of Lake Tahoe and somewhere near Sugar Pine Point you find a parking spot. Hop the guardrail and head down on any given trail. It is steep as hell from the main road down to the lakeshore. And a hell of a climb back up to your car. We did not do the loop, but an in and out for about a mile. It is a quick way to get the heart rate up and find your altitude legs. Due to the density of the large pine trees, vegetation is scares underneath the canopy. It was pretty sandy and I was worried about erosion and fires. It was obvious that fires have gone through there in the not too distant past.
