Reno Road Trip 2: Virginia City, NV

Virginia City, 30-minutes from Reno, is a true-to-life mining town. It was developed as a boom town in 1859 with the discovery of the Comstock Lode, the first major silver and gold deposit discovery in the U.S. By the mid 1870’s, the town’s population topped 25,000. Today, it is about 900. The town is basically a tourist destination with great bars, coffee roasters, jewelers and gun-fighting side shows. Mining however, has not stopped at the nearby Gold Hill and Silver City.
