It all depends on where you go. The State Department just updated their list of risk indicators for foreign countries to include ‘kidnapping’. Thirty-five countries were immediately listed, most that won’t be on your bucket list. But a few surprises are on this list:
– Kenya
– Philippines
-Trinidad & Tobago
– Mexico
– Turkey
Before you go ahead and cancel any trips, be aware that there are four levels of advisory. Make sure you visit the state department website: (https://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2019/04/291021.htm)
Level 4: Do not travel
Level 3: Reconsider
Level 2: Exercise increased caution
Level 1: Exercise normal caution
Smart Tip: Register with STEP, a free service that allows U.S. citizens and nationals traveling and living abroad to enroll their trip with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Just in case.
