The Hamlet of Cotopaxi, CO is 2.5 hours south and slightly west from Denver. Our dear friends, Craig and Rina Reed reside there with 47 other citizens in the town. Why do you ask? Situated 66 turns into the 46-mile Bighorn Sheep Canyon, it is heavenly. The Arkansas River splits the town in two as it curves for another 40 + twists in a fight with Highway 50.
After church, our friends took us to an abandoned granite mine high up in the Sangre de Christo Mountains, the old town of Westville and the most remote restaurant we ever visited. Alpine Lodge Restaurant is situated in the mountains and fully booked every night despite the remote location.
On the way, we stopped at the historic Beckwith ranch house, the home of the largest cattle rancher in the previous century. We were in awe of the large grasslands framed by majestic mountains in this part of the state.
