The Phoenix Gold Mine was purchased in 1968 by the current owners who are 4th generation, Colorado miners. In 1988, they decided to share their passion for prospecting, mining and panning for gold with others by offering tours. The history of the mine is rich. It is estimated that the mine has produced over 100,000 troy ounces of gold.
Founded 162 years ago in 1859 by prospectors during the early days of the Pike’s Peak Gold Rush, the town of Idaho Springs was at the center of the region’s mining district throughout the late nineteenth century. Though the town is known for its hot springs, Idaho Springs has a lot more to offer. Rafting is one of the top summer sports, with skiing in the winter and fishing year round.
