We took a few days off for a road trip to Canada which is a three-hour drive to the US/Canada border. To visit our good friends Gerhard and Hettie Greeve in Hamilton, Ontario, we added another six-hour drive for an 1,800-mile (2,900 km) round trip.
It provided a good look at the incredible scenery of the woods of Maine in the summer after months of snow. Towns like Newport, Canaan, Skowhegan, Madison, Kingfield, Carrabassett Valley, Eustis, Chain of Ponds, flew by before the small border post at Moosehorn. The views at Flaghouse Lake and Chain Lakes demanded stops to stretch our legs and suck in the fresh air!
On the Canadian side, we drove past Sherbrooke and Eastman to Brossard and Montreal. Up to this point, we headed almost dead west and then started to dip down to the south along the large Lake St. Louis and the St. Lawrence River. This area is one of the breadbaskets of Canada with mile upon mile of farms. Finally, we reached Kingston and Greater Napanee along the upper reaches of Lake Ontario.
