Almost four years now since we started the ‘travel nursing’ experience ‘on the road’. We have lived and worked in eight states and travelled to two more where the opportunities did not work out. Twenty-eight thousand miles to date and two years of COVID chaos. A lifetime packed into the trunk of the car. A second honeymoon some would say, or perhaps an escape from the ‘empty nest syndrome’. Irrespective, it’s been a trip!
Temperatures in Maine have improved from the 20’s and 30’s to the 40’s and 50’s, with more sunshine and no snow. Some lakes and rivers are still frozen though. Stores and restaurants started to open mid-April and should be in full operation by May 1st. Finally, we started to explore this beautiful state with our first stop being the Acadia National Park. Situated on the coast of Maine, the majority of the park’s 47,000 acres sprawl on Mount Desert Island.
For half the year, Cadillac Mountain is home to the first rays of daylight to touch the United States, and the perfect place to catch the sunrise year-round. Considering the sheer scale and beauty of the mountain (it’s the tallest on Mount Desert Island and the Atlantic Coast), the mountain offers excellent hiking trails and look-out points.
The community of Bar Harbor is known as the gateway to Acadia NP. Main Street is lined with shops, boutiques and dining of all sorts and we have explored them all. The park warrants multiple visits due to its size and we are sure to report on other areas around Mount Desert Island once the whales arrive.
